QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
(Send Us Tour Questions and We will Add Them, With Answers on this Webpage)
e-mail: jimbennett@ozemail.com.au

What is “ Odyssey On Stage”?
Odyssey is a travel adventure for youth interested in participating, learning and developing Dance & Theatre Arts and performing for international audiences. Participants can also investigate career opportunities in the Performing Arts. Participants will be involved in a Odyssey Youth Dance Theatre Program and when performing will be known as “Odyssey on Stage”.

Who runs and conducts OOS tours & programs?
Classrooms Around the World Pty Ltd organises and conducts education and performing arts tours as “Odyssey On Stage” & “Dance Tours Worldwide”. CATW P/L is an Australian Company. CATW P/L have been conducting  International Tours since 1989. Our Team of Consultants is based in NSW. Our International team extends to West & East Coast USA, UK, France, Italy, Greece, China & New Zealand.

What are the Rules?
Performers will need to make a total commitment to the Odyssey  On Stage Program & Tour.
Terms & Conditions of inclusion in the tour are advised and need to acknowledged by family and members.
Members must be in good health, including non-performing members.
All members must comply with the Tour “Code of Conduct & Behaviour”. A copy will be made available to each tour member/family.
Safety & Welfare are priority issues.

How old do I have to be to participate in an Odyssey on Stage Program?
11-21 Years. Younger participants can apply, if accompanied by a Parent, on tour.

What about supervision?
“Duty of Care” is foremost.
Parents on tour will be responsible for their own children.
Unaccompanied Children/under 18 years will have a Supervisor/Chaperone.
RCCL requires a Chaperone in each Cabin with children; and in “next to/adjacent rooms” in hotels.
An Adult/Chaperone must be with Children/under 18 years at all times.
CATW P/L/Odyssey team members will supervise and conduct formal class, workshops, excursions etc.
“Buddy System” Always, on tour.
Specific rules pertaining to supervision and behaviour will be outlined in the Tour “Code of Conduct & Behaviour”
Curfews will be advised and will vary with circumstances and needs throughout the tour.
Overall conduct of the tour & supervision will be arranged and conducted by CATW P/L Consultants, Tour Conductors and Supervisors.
All aspects of the  “Child Protection Act” will be employed where Adults, Chaperones & Supervisors are involved with children & supervision.

How good do I have to be?
Basic Dance experience will be beneficial. Dancers, Vocalists, Musicians and anyone involved in any aspect of the performing arts can apply. e..g. actors, gymnasts, jugglers…

Do I have to audition?
Only if you wish to apply for a featured or solo role. You will though, have to help us determine your level of dance/performing ability so that we can place you in an appropriate performance ensemble(s).

How do I do this?
Bring your dance gear & ballet, jazz, tap shoes to your first workshop and our OYDT choreographers will teach you some simple dance routines and then you will have the opportunity to perform the routine in a group setting.

What if I cannot tap or do ballet?
You only need to participate and perform in the dance styles that you are proficient and comfortable with. Hip Hip or Jazz, perhaps.

How often do I have to take classes and rehearse?
Your choreographers will schedule classes and workshops for each ensemble. The schedules will vary between ensembles and days. They will try to do so to suit everyone’s availability and needs.
All ensembles & OOS members will come together about once a month for ½ day workshops.

What will I have to rehearse & perform?
Your Directors and Choreographers will create, instruct and teach artistic and performance elements of the OOS concert program. The program(s) will consist of different styles from Classical, to Modern to Pop & Hip Hop. You may in several, possibly most items of a concert program. Everyone will be involved in the opening and closing numbers and 1-2 additional items.

Where will we perform?
Disneyworld Florida; A New York Cit School, on one of the largest Cruise ships in the world “Liberty of the Seas” (3) sailing the Caribbean; “Mariner of the Seas” (2-3 Performances) sailing the Mexico Riviera.

What about Dance Classes & Workshops on tour?
There will be up to 14 dance, musical & Broadway Theatre classes and workshops and presentations covering all aspects of dance style and Broadway Theatre. Some classes will relate to the Broadway shows that you will see. Some workshops will include theatrical make-up, mock broadway/theatre audition(s), resume presentations. Former and current Broadway Dancers and artists will conduct these classes and workshops. All are designed to develop your ability and
performance confidence. Some classes will be in an “Open” setting (with older & professional dancers). There will be an extensive Disney Dance Industry workshops and their will also be dances classes conducted onboard your cruise ship(s).

Do I have to do all the classes?
NO point in  taking an advanced Tap class if you cannot TAP!! We can  try  to substitute some dance styles for others and have some classes to suit the ability levels of dancers. We will pre determine what classes will best suit your needs and ability.

If my Parents are on tour…Do they have to attend classes and workshops with me?
No!! While performers are involved in classes and workshops, there will be an alternate itinerary for Mum’s & Dads, including sightseeing and shopping etc. during those times. Some workshops and presentations with Broadway artists, Parents will find very interesting. Parents can attend these sessions but fees will also apply.

Do we have FREE time on tour?
Absolutely!!! In all destinations. Each Day will consist of Class(es), Theatre workshops, Sightseeing and Free time for independent itineraries and Shopping…!! There are also 2-3 Broadway Shows Scheduled.

How long is the tour?
For the budget conscious members, the mainstay tour is 17 Days in the USA; Disneyworld/Florida; Miami & the Caribbean & New York, NY. Those members who wish to return to Sydney on Day 17, can do so, to arrive from Los Angeles on the morning of Day 19.

For those members who are enjoying themselves and would like to extend their tour, they can do so from Los Angeles for a further 3 or 10 Days. This will include a Hollywood, Beverley Hills, Santa Monica, Universal Studios and Edge Dance Studios Classes (3 Days) followed by 7 Day Mexico Riviera Performance Cruise. A Day at Disney Theme Parks Los Angeles will conclude the last tour Day.

What if we don’t have enough performers for the Mexico Cruise?
We will have to wait and see!! The minimum number for the cruise is 16 Persons. Hopefully we will have at least 10 performers.

I heard that we can extend our Tour by travelling to Paris, France?
We will not be able to extend to 2 tour destinations…Los Angeles and Paris? Paris was suggested originally but there was no availability for OOS on a Europe performance cruise for April 2009, the main reason for going to Paris. Although the Around the World Airfare will be cheaper than
the USA destinations airfare, the taxes are higher and the cost of each day in Paris is higher than the pro rata cost for each day in Los Angeles/Mexico Riviera.  The cruises are a great value options and provide more performance opportunities

We will leave the Paris Tour Sector on the OOS web pages for the information of those interested but there is much greater interest in the Los Angeles/Mexico Riviera Extended tour sector at this time.

Obviously, touring both destinations will divide our performance company numbers beyond viability.

What are the minimum tour numbers for the Tour to go ahead?
We need 16 Performers and a budget income from at least a total of 26 members to make the tour work? Anything less than 16 members in total would make the tour untenable.

There is no limit as to how many members we can include in OOS April 2009.

What about our Deposits if there are insufficient tour numbers to make the tour viable?
No money will be paid to the key agents, Airlines & Cruise until the tour numbers can be ascertained. If tour numbers are untenable for the tour to proceed, deposits will be Refunded.

What are the deposit Amounts?
Airfare $250.00/person
Each Cruise $250.00USD /person
CATW P/L $150.00/person

When do the other amounts have to be paid?
An Interim Payment will have to be paid on request from the Airlines and the RCCL (Cruises).
Probably about February. 2009. Full payment for these key tour components may need to made
in full,  at this time.

The balance of payments remaining will need to be 49 Days from departure.

How much will the tour cost?
Cost variations will depend on the duration of each tour, 17, 20, 27 Days, the inclusions and options selected, whether the tour members are performers or non-performers or Adults or minors, and the total number of persons included in the tour group. The currency exchange rate of the AUD $ to the USD $ will be significant in the final calculation of costs.

3 Costs will be fixed. Airfares and CATW Fees & Costs in $ Australian and Cruise Rates & Costs in USD$.

Other costs will be calculated in USD$ when numbers are finalized as hotels, transport, admissions etc are all tour number based costs. Basic costs are based on Quad Share(2 D. Beds), Inside Cabins(4 Berths). Upgrades to Triple, Twin are available at additional cost.

Airfare will be lowest that Flight Centre can offer. Costs & estimated costs will appear on the OOS webpages under Information & Updates. Included and excluded costs will also appear on this page once costs are budgeted and finalized.
