TOUR UPDATES
29.1.2007

Bahamas Cruise Mandatory Registration
To do this We need to get  to log on to www.royalcaribbean.com and go to ‘Before You Board’ and then ‘Online Check-In’ and enter their surnames, reservations ID, ship and sail date and complete all 4 stages of information and print off their ‘Set Sail Pass’.

To do this I will e-mail to Renae, our passenger and reservation information. It will be best if she forwards this information to you or you ask for it from her. Privacy and security is at risk if I placed this on the R-Stars website.

Frequent Flyer Programs
The R-Star  Performers Tour takes in about 30,000 air miles. If you are not a Qantas Frequent Flyer Member it is recommended that you join the QFF program. It is likely that you will have close to enough points for a domestic return flight, perhaps Trans Tasman?

Greece
You will love the Greece tour sector.
Your cruise ship will be the Louis Cruise Lines “Sea Diamond” 22, 000+ tonnes. A much, much smaller ship than the “Sovereign of the Seas”, but grand in many ways for our Mediterranean performing arts odyssey. www.louiscruises.com

The Performance venue in Athens will be at the Athens Dance Academy Theatre. The performance program for Athens and the cruise can be up to 1 Hour.  Performance in Athens will be on Anzac Day afternoon. Performance on the cruise will be on Saturday after we sail from Rhodes.

One little glitch…Our package rates for the Greece sector were based on Quad/Triple, Twin/Double rates. Our Athens Hotel is the elegant ATHENS ACROPOL HOTEL, which does not have Quad Rooms (or they don’t have any now!!!) There will be some unavoidable change to the rooming configuration, affecting only a few people, and package rate cost. Reserving sufficient rooms for our tour group needs is the immediate priority. The cruise cabin configuration will be the same as for “Sovereign of the Seas”. www.classicalhotels.gr

Exchange Rates
USA rates are down. Euro rates are steady.  Rather than make changes to invoices everyday. I will attempt to mail the first batch of invoices on Friday 2nd Feb. 2007.

Invoices
Your Invoices will  detailed and will

  1. Show Exchange rates from 1st Feb. 2007.
  2. Reflect 2007 increases/Seasonal increases (& Easter Rates; Mainly for Florida).
  3. Indicated all relevant itemised costs in USD/Euro and  Payable amounts in $ AUD .
  4. Vary pending Performers and Non-Performers rates.
  5. Vary pending tour options undertaken. e.g. Moulin Rouge.
  6. Show Room Share configuration and relevant costs.
  7.

Costs will also include International/State & Local taxes which have now been applied, where applicable.

Invoice will show

  1. All costs to be Pre-paid.
  2. Component and cost information.
  3. Total costs per Tour Sector.
  4. The actual Invoice will be based on  a Tour Cost Summary, indicating all tour components costs, eacj individuals costs and the amounts paid as initial and interim deposits.
  5. The balance owing to ClassRooms Around The World pty Ltd/ Odyssey by 22nd February 2007.

A supplementary invoice will be forwarded from ClassRooms Around The World Pty Ltd/Odyssey, on behalf of Centre Stage Flight Centre for the balance of payment owing ( if their invoice arrives at CATW before 1st Feb 2007)

TOUR UPDATES
12.1.2007

These updates are intended to keep you informed.

Bus Schedules & Rates
As more confirmations, times, schedules and changes fall into place, bus schedules need to be revised. In fact all bus schedules have been revised, primarily due to Airline itinerary changes. Some services are now extended others may be reduced. Costing may change but I do not expect anything radical.

Cruise Registration
This is a mandatory requirement by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. It also short cuts check- in and boarding procedures. RCCL cruises are “cashless” which means that all personal expenses (and you will have some) are linked to your credit card. These details are also required in the registration process.

Every passenger will be issued a RCCL card that will debit your credit card. This is also your ID card and your access to reboard your ship at Ports. It is also the means by which you can make your shipboard purchases and also pay for your optional shore excursions.

If you do not have a credit card it maybe necessary to deposit cash into your cruise account (refundable if not accessed, whilst on board). This can be done at the Pursers Desk, once you have boarded “Sovereign of the Seas”. Minors will have their RCCL card especially coded (to prevent purchase of alcoholic drinks and admission to Adult only areas of the ship.

Details for “online registration” will be advised very soon.

All cruise information will be provided at our final tour group meeting in mid March 2007. If you need cruise information at this time, e-mail your “Q’s” to jimbennett@ozemail.com.au

Updated Itinerary
Version 22.12.2007 indicates performance dates and times (TBA for Cruises), details for performers activities in NYC, some of which are new inclusions, revised Paris itinerary due to change of Disneyland-Paris arrangements and having to fit all aspects of the previous Paris itinerary. New flight schedules and variations also means changes to bus and tour schedules.

Some program & schedule changes for performers are still likely. A few things such lunch & dinner locations may be added or changed.

Flight Schedules
Please note some radical flight changes, particularly Sydney to Los Angeles and Paris to Athens via Barcelona from Orly Airport. Not Charles De Gaulle Airport as originally scheduled. The Paris bus schedule will be changed, again!!!

Airlines often cancel flights and change timetables and these matters are beyond our control.

Paris Hotels
Disneyland-Paris Resort could not accommodate us for 3 days. We do have our confirmation for 22nd & 23rd  April 2007  We will be staying in Paris for one night 22nd April.

The Hotel Brebant (Opera District) could not accommodate quads and by booking date did not have sufficient triple rooms. Double/Twin rooms were $117.00/person.

Our new confirmed hotel for Paris 22nd April is the Hotel Victoria in the Montmatre district. A smaller, ideally located hotel, and all rooms are Doubles/Twins (a couple of Singles). Cost $91.00/person, with breakfast. This is a good area to stroll around independently and to enjoy one of Paris’ vibrant areas. Lots of restaurants. You will have a lot of choices to make for yourselves. Ave de Clichy is more “avant garde”. Moulin Rouge and The Lido are located here.

There is so much to see and do in Paris. I wish we could have an extra day or two here!!!

Disneyland – Paris Resort Hotel

Our Hotel at Disneyland - Paris will be Hotel Cheyenne.  It is an interesting and pleasant American Western Themed Hotel. Normally, we would have a lodge or block to ourselves, but the fact that we could not be accommodated at Disney for 21.4.2007 indicates a full house and a busy time at the theme parks. Good audiences also!!!

Rates -  (includes Accommodation, Theme Park Tickets & Breakfast)
Single - 320.00 Eur/pers. ($547.00 AUD/pers.)
Twin/Double - 220.00 Eur/pers. ($376.00 AUD/pers.)
Triple – 197.00 Eur/pers. ($337.00 AUD/pers.)
Quad – 181.00 Eur/pers. ($309.00AUD/pers)

Broadway Tickets
The cheapest seats were not always available for the dates that we are in NYC. In one case only the best orchestra seats were available for the dates available. All invoices for payment have arrived. Most have been paid as the due date for payments were in the Christmas/Vacation period. Payments per person hence,. are due also.   Costs will be invoiced  per Renae’s Broadway Theatre List. The amounts will be included for each person in the Final Payment Invoice

Evening:
“Chicago” 18 Confirmed. 7.00.p.m. 17.4.07. Rear Mezz. Ambassador Theatre. 219 W. 49th St. $57.50 USD/pers.
“Mary Poppins” 11 Confirmed. 8.00.p.m.  17.4.07. Front Mezz. New Amsterdam Theatre. 214 W. 42nd St. $111.25 USD/person.

Matinee:

“Hairspray” 19 Confirmed. 2.00.p.m. 18.4.07. Mid Mezz. Neil Simon Theatre. 250 W. 52nd St. $56.25 USD/pers.
“Lion King” 18 Confirmed. 2.00.p.m. 18.4.07. Orchestra Seating. Minskoff Theatre. 200W. 45th St. $97.50 USD/pers.
*All costs include Facility Fee (whatever that is??) and Reservation & Handling Fees.

Group bookings for Broadway Shows are now closed.

Moulin Rouge Cabaret
Reservation for the only available show for our group is Monday 223rd April 11.00. p.m.  is confirmed. Deposit has been made. The invoice, unfortunately shows a VAT tax per person which MRC did not advised at the time of booking.

ORLY Airport; NOT Charles de Gaulle Int. AP.
Return to the hotel from MRC will be after 1.00.a.m. Transfer to Orly Airport (on the other side of Paris) from the Hotel will be 3.30.a.m. (3 hours prior to departure is required for International Flights). Discombombulation and sleep sessions wherever, whenever, will be the order for most of the day.
Greece is pretty laid back. I think we will appreciate this mode after a tight & busy Paris visit.

Invoices For Final Payment
Due date for Payment is 22nd February 2007 (7 weeks from departure).
Your invoice will be itemised and detailed to show payments to date, cost variations, upgrades, tour options undertaken and balances due to ClassRooms Around The World Pty Ltd and Centre Stage Flight Centre. Late payments will need to be made by Bank Cheque and subject to the terms & conditions for tour payments.

8 Members are extending their tour from Athens. These extended tour costs will invoiced for members, directly by Centre Stage Flight Centre.

Invoices will be mailed directly to tour member families from 31st January 2007.

Insurance
Be sure to cover your tour payments and your tour with comprehensive travel, medical and liability insurance. You have a lot of costs and tour components to protect pre-tour and whilst you will be on tour.
20% Discounted premiums are offered by Centre Stage Flight Centre.

UR UPDATES
22.12.2006

Florida Hotel

We have 2 hotels in Orland/Disneyworld, Florida.
The Ramada/Reedy Creek Inn has been sold and about to be turned into condominiums.

Our New Disneyworld Area Hotel (Pending Confirmation) is Days Inn  Maingate East.

There does not seem to be any disadvantage to the tour group. The “all you can eat” buffet breakfast for $6.00.00 USD/day looks like a great deal.

2 websites for you to investigate… hotel and immediate Old Town Area…

www.daysinnmaingate.com & www.old-town.com

Paris Hotel
21.4.07. Hotel Brebant-Paris Opera Area cannot comply with the number of Triple Share Rooms Required.
We are awaiting confirmation on the Hotel Victoria in the Montmatre District.  No Quads available but waiting on confirmation for availability of required Triple/Double/Twin Rooms. This hotel will be cheaper than Hotel Brebant.

Montmatre is a more confined and interesting area.

Itinerary. Website version 22.12.2006.

The Tour Itinerary is updated to show changes, recent confirmations and reservations and flight and transport schedule variations. All key components remain but reorganised and rescheduled in sync. with flights, transport, classes and performances confirmations.

R-Star Performers Concert.

A special note of Thanks!!!

My wife and I loved every minute of your concert.
I am not sure if I was supposed to laugh at some of the tiny tots on stage. They were wonderful. I could see very talented performers and the effort that every one put into their performance must make you feel very proud.

I have seen 4 concerts (not including the School Spec) in the last month. Your R-Stars are head and shoulders above the others. We were totally entertained.

The Performance Schedule is:

  1. Sunday 8th April 2007. Disneyworld Venue & Time TBA
  2. “Sovereign of the Seas” Extended Program. Day & Time TBA

New York City Itinerary & Schedules
My Main Broadway/Theatrical contact has offered and confirmed a number classes, workshops and visits that will make the NYC sector a truly theatrical experience. Jane Seaman will also be tutoring Julie Goodwin in Broadway Musical Theatre whilst in NYC. Jane has also offered the services of her “Rockettes” ( genuine) to take dance classes just as you would have if you were to undertake the Broadway Dance Centre Rockette Mock Audition Program and hell of a lot cheaper than the $90.00 USD/person per session. Even the Younger performers can be a part of these classes.

The following are confirmed for NYC sector.

  • “Fame” School Visit.
  • Jane Seaman “Broadway Experience” - Audition Process & “Meet The Artists” session.
  • 2 x Rockette instructed dance classes.
  • “Backstage Tour –“Wicked” on Broadway
  • Performance at a NYC Elementary School
  • Broadway Theatre Tickets. Optional Groups Only.

Broadway Theatre Tickets.
I can confirm that I have an invoice for 19 Tickets to 2.00.p.m. Session of “Hairspray” for Wed 18th April.  Cost is $55.00 USD per Ticket. Payment is due by 20th December 2006. Please cheque with Renae if she is willing to forward your payments.

Still awaiting invoices for the other 3 Broadway shows for which reservations have been made.

Hotel Accommodation – Paris Sector
It was not possible to confirm a Weekend performance (Monday is good as we will be the only group performing on the main stage that day) at Disneyland-Paris, nor was it possible to secure accommodation on all days in Paris at a Disneyland Paris Hotel. I will though seem like a bonus to spend at least one full day and night in Paris.
Our hotel on 21st April 2007 will be the Hotel Brebant (3*) in the vibrant Opera District of Paris. Unfortunately, this will also mean that mean the Paris sector has to be rescheduled and recosted (Itinerary/Hotel/ Transport Costs).
The first part of the day will be spent with Paris Sightseeing until Hotel Check-In about 2.00.p.m. From this point, the opportunity to freshen up, rest or explore the immediate environs is for each family or group to decide. From 5.00.p.m. our bus will be available to continue our formal sightseeing (and shopping). This will be to the Halles District and Montmatre. The bus will return at 9.00.p.m. Both districts will also be venues for Dinner, pending if you wish to eat early or late.
Groups may wish to undertake their own itinerary but it may not be possible to visit Montmatre again, if you are not included in the Moulin Rouge group. Return to the hotel will be 9.00.p.m.
The Hotel Brebant is costed per person by an external agency and unfortunately, as is the case with smaller Paris Hotel. Quad Share rooms are available for families with Children below 11 years. The rooms are not suitable for 4 Adults and/or older children. It will be necessary to reconfigure Quad Room Lists to additional Triple Share Rooms. Until Renae can advise of who will form new Triple share rooms for (1)night, I must reserve and confirm the required number of rooms immediately in the event that delay could see us lose the reservation at this hotel completely.
On the “Plus” side, the location of this hotel is in central Paris and ideal for discovering the ambience of the City and for independent sightseeing and shopping.  The hotel does include a French breakfast.

Airlines & Flights
Did anyone notice the departure time of the flight from Paris to Athens. It’s very early!!! You may also be thinking that the required departure time from the hotel to the Airport is a mistake and should be 3.00.p.m. No Mistake!!! Airlines dictate and cause all manner of problems in the travel industry.  Our original flight for Paris to Athens was cancelled. Airlines do this and we have to solve or own problems.

If getting up early as 3.00.a.m. is an adventure that many of us have not encountered before, the Airport for departure of our flight is no longer Charles de Gaulle (CDG) but Orly Airport (ORL). CDG is about 30 minutes from Disneyland. Orly Airport is 15 kilometres on the other side of Paris!!! Remember also we need 3 hours prior to departure to check in because of the security systems procedures.

MOULIN ROUGE
Some of you who intended to go to Moulin Rouge may have noticed that the return from Paris to the Hotel is at 1.30.am. on the morning of departure.  Members of this group will be lucky to close their eyes before it is time to get up again. I can wait a week or so for members to decide if they want to go on with Moulin Rouge Cabaret and make payments. If the numbers then, that do want to continue with the MR excursion are insufficient to warrant the cost, consideration will have to be given to cancelling the MR reservations we currently hold.

Cabin Baggage & Contents
There are restrictions as to what can now be taken on board planes as cabin baggage.  The European Union has deemed that cabin bags will be a maximum of 56cm x 45cm x 25cms. No passenger can carry more than 100mls of liquid per container, This includes drinks, shampoo, suntan lotion, gels, perfumes and toothpaste. All items must be in a transparent container with a maximum capacity of 1litre. Exemptions are made for people with medical conditions and for baby food to be used on board. Australian passengers flying to the USA will encounter similar measures. This information will be updated prior to departure. If you getting a cabin bag for Christmas, make sure that it comes under the EU stipulated measures.

Interim Payments

What a "fantastic" group . All Interim Payments have been received by CATW P/L by due date. Your are the only group to do this "twice"
, in the 17 years of CATW P/L. Receipts will be issued by the end of November.

Airfare Increases
Qantas " One World" carriers have increased their fares & taxes. Centre Stage Flight Centre can hold the current R-Star Performers airfare for 2 Months, from 31st Oct. 2006. If you are able to pay your airfare in full by the extended time you will avoid the increase. The increase is currently $130.00 (approx) plus the relevant tax increase

To pay this amount in full you will need to phone:
Carly Nichols at Centre Stage Flight Centre; 07 4048 0600. Mention ClassRooms Around The World & R-Star Performers & Family Name.

Paying by Credit Card will incur a 1.5 % surcharge (variable).

Currency Exchange Rates.
There is a current 2.5 % upward increase in the value of the $AUS against the $US at this time and about 1% upward increase in the value of the $AUS against the Euro.
This is very good news, if the rates can hold. Tour members will find it advantageous to buy cash or travellers cheques any time that the rates are above 74.50 USD or 58.50 Euro.

Option Surveys

The "group" numbers wishing to attend the optional excursions, visits, shows are complete. There are no numbers for Broadway Show selections that warrant a group rate. If you would like CATW P/L to reserve tickets for any of the top 3 Broadway shows listed for evening or matinee, please e-mail or phone your new selection by 20th November 2006. jimbennett@ozemail.com.au; Phone: 02 9874 4384
There should not be a problem if you wish to purchase your own tickets for your own choice of show. This opportunity will on the 16th April 2006.

Survey charts Click HERE

COSTS

  1. Some minor seasonal & 2007 costs have been applied to Disneyworld/Orlando accommodation.
  2. NYC transportation is subject to a 7.3 % fuel surcharge. Other sector transportation providers have not advised of there fuel surcharge rate. It is possible that on review in the New Year that these rates may decrease.
  3. Some admission/costs between student and adult tour components vary. Please Check for information at PAYMENTS & COSTS on the R-Stars Web Page/Navigation Bar.

ITINERARY &  SCHEDULES.

  1. A performance at the “USS Intrepid” is no longer possible. The “USS Intrepid” is undergoing a refit and refurbishment not due for completion until 2008. A school visit and/or a short performance program is being investigated. Although another public performance venue may be available the cost of providing our own production, tech, staging & audio requirements, and insurance is prohibitive.

  1. The NYC Itinerary can be interchanged to include on the 18th April 2007. A Visit to The “Fame” School of Performing Arts and/ or Visit to a NYC Elementary School for a short program Performance and/or Broadway Theatre Matinee Show. A Broadway Audition Presentation with Broadway Tutors and Performers can also be arranged in the time slot previously allocated to the “USS Intrepid” performance. These options can be discussed at the forthcoming Tour Family Meeting.
  1. Pending the dates/times available for NYC dance classes and the morning available for alternate activities owing to the loss of the “USS Intrepid” performance opportunity. The NYC sector itinerary may need to be reshuffled from day to day to best suit the scheduled activities of the tour group. Nothing will be lost but more will on offer.

  1. The “Out of Paris” Tour on the 23rd April 2007, including the Visit to Palace of Versailles, Amiens, and the Australian/ Somme War Memorial is an extremely long day and about 400 Klms of  travel. It now seems a better alternative to continue with the Palace of Versailles Tour and spend more time in Paris sightseeing and shopping, on this day.

NYC/BROADWAY SHOWS

  1. Many NYC/Broadway Theatre shows are booked out months in advance.  The R-Stars tour group will need to choose the shows that they would like to see on the Evening of the 17th April 2007 and the Afternoon of the 18th April 2007(Matinee).

  1. Group rates are very affordable for these shows, but a group is considered as 15-20 persons, pending the conditions of various booking agencies.  Anyone wishing to see their own show will need to make there own ticket and possibly, transport arrangements. In all cases students/minors need to be supervised by approved chaperones/supervisors. It will be possible to attend one of two (1 of 2) shows for each performance.  A “Meet The Artists” Aftershow is available with some performances. The cost is about $7.00 USD/person (but does not represent value). It is possible that CATW P/L can  arrange current Broadway performers to meet with the R-Star performers at a Theatre District venue (not necessarily “aftershow”). The best opportunity would be at “A Broadway Audition Presentation with Broadway Tutors and Performers”, mentioned in the Itinerary & Schedules Update.
  1. A list of the Top Broadway Shows & Recommendations in Bold, to assist your selection(s).

for Show Reviews.
